    1964 grill

    My car is pretty original, a repaint and recovered seats, the rest is pretty much the way the General made it. Now, my grille, is really starting to look a little shabby. Does a Long Island Corvette grille look close, it is rather inexpensive, or is it worth while looking for NOS??

    Hi Don, I see you asked the same question but did not receive an answer.
    So your grille is original but is just looking shabby. Try some 0000 steel wool on it to bring it back to life. Takes a lot of time though but the old grilles clean up pretty decent.
    The one in my 63 was looking pretty crappy and I was going to replace it. Instead a friend spent a couple of hours on the grille with steel wool and polishes and I was really impressed. JD

      JD, what about the rock chips/dents? Did he do anything special with those, or did the polishing get enough of the dirt out to make them disappear.

        Mine has been corroded by Love Bug Juice! What can I do with that?

          Paul, My 63, the LWC doesn't go thru any gravel roads to get rock chips. Just on and off nice trailer.

          Story: I had a NOS grille in the box up in a spare bedroom for about 15 years or so. Then I lost interest in the 63 and sold the NOS grille. Well you know the rest. Interest in the car came back and I ended up with a crappy looking original grille.
          Actually it looks quite nice now after my detail guy spent two hours on it.
          Good enough. Didn't get any deducts with it.

            John;

            Did your detail guy get any finger cuts? That grill is a pain to clean, even to dry after a wash. My fingers always take a beating.

            I replaced mine with a NOS back in 92 after I used it to slice up a deer. It wasn't that bad, just a few bent bars, but I knew I could never get them perfectly straight so I wouldn't know it
