    63-64 differential bearing caps

In an earlier thread there was a question on the type of differential bearing caps used on the 63-79 iron diff's. I posted pictures of each type but the 63-64 were not too clean, here are some off a '63 diff I did. You can see they also had the cast in tabs but not the ribs in the cap. Also they used weaker hex heads.
Hope this helps clear up the types used.

Thanks for this info, Gary. Confirms that a Jan 3rd 1964 4.56 diff that I bought about 5 years ago retained its '63-4 style bearing caps. Gotta love the colored paint inspection marks.

Lucky for me the original Dana posi was replaced by the 1st gen. Eaton (with the small postage stamp-sized window [visible at bottom], and a new 4.56 gearset).

      Hey wayne
456's, ... well you won't need the brakes to slow it down! 30 odd years ago my buddy blew apart the 411 diff in his 68 and he went with 456's. Pretty cool around town but tough going 60 mph on the road. Course gas was .90 a gallon too.

I would replace those bearing screws with socket heads for a little added strength. Make sure the RG bolts are tight, maybe pull them, clean them and use #271 on them now while you can. Check that early case too for any cracks, looks good in the picture but that is a stone stock setup I see which mixed with some power, heavy foot, and 456's often leads to iron salad.
