    Re: Seat belt restoration questions

I met Charlie at Carlisle and he showed me his work. I had him make me up a NOS set of Glen Green 1965 belts with retractors. The quality of workmanship could not be duplicated by any vendor I have ever talked with both at Carlisle & Bloomington. In fact they are so perfect it is shame to put them in my car. He even had them sent to me earlier than expected. Initially he was a little gruff but once he realized I was not a tire kicker and handed him a bundle of cash he was just a good business person. He also called me twice before shipment. You of course get what you pay for. I would recommend him to anyone.

        Donald:

His services will be different for different years. Restoration to existing belts will be less than purchasing outright.

I think I paid 750.00 for a complete set of black 63 belts 3 years ago.

            Don,

Attached are pictures of my original January built 1964 seat belts. These pictures are of the original belts after Charlie steam cleaned them. The buckles were not rechromed at my request but the latch hardware was restored and the latches were painted by me and sent back to Charlie for reassembly since I had the interior spray paint that matched the rest of the interior components. The interior of my car is red but the belts are not the bright red. I was informed that this color of seat belt material was used during 1964.

He does excellent work and as others have said is very direct, but willing to work with you. I would ask him if it is possible to clean your white seat belt material, he did wonders for mine.

            Best Regards,

              James,
Nice job as usual however where are the labels! Curious if they are the "63" labels and approximate SN of car. If its an earlier car, built before Jan 1964, then would expect to see the "63". For less popular colors, like white, the "63" labels slip at least into Mar 1964 while the black have already changed in Jan 1964

snake oyl did my 70 belts and they look great. they used my original tags and reused the original shoulder harness material because it is a little different than the lap belt material. it was expensive but they are nice.

James, thanks for the photos. Guys, thanks for all of your time and input. only on this site would 10 guys help out on a reconditioning question. I will pull my belts tomorrow, I will let Charlie see if he can steam clean and restore first, then if not I will replace. Don

Mine will be heading out this week to Charlie.
He was a very pleasant fellow to chat with, and I have seen examples of his work. I know that when they come back I will wish I had sent them much earlier.

So Danny, I assume you have the same label that James and I have, please confirm.
                              Also assume belts are white.
                              Thanks

Sorry guys, my belts are long gone, that's why I am reading this thread to see what mine suppose to be and where to buy. My should be red like the carpet, but the seats/door panels are white. Everything is black now.
