    * "Pete, I got the Joe Gibbs BR oil for Break-In of my new cam and the Joe Gibbs Assembly Grease for assembly. When I bought it from the distributor here in England he told me about the relatively new Hot Rod Oil line. He said it was also good stuff and great for cars that stand for long periods of time. Also has the higher zinc level that Willie mentioned like the BR. If it wasn't so damn expensive (even more here in the UK) I'd be using that Hot Rod Oil all the time. Ray Quayle"
Yes, I can see that you have received some valuable feedback.

      Peter,

How much does the Joe Gibbs oil cost per quart. I have heard of it but never considered using it in my engine, I buy the Walmart CJ/SM 15-40 at 9./gal.

Is the engine in your car modified and you are considering using it??

        Tim:

I don't know how much it is or where to get it. Frankly, I don't know much about it at all and that was why I posted this thread. I was not trying to advertise it or start another zinc additive thread. I was just looking for information and actual user feedback, pro or con. You can see for yourself what I got in terms of answers. It looks to me like no one here knows much about Joe Gibbs Hot Rod Oil either.

My L98 is primarily stock with a few non-visable modifications. I currently use Royal Purple in the drive train and am satisfied with its performance. I am not particularily looking to change my oil brand. I was just looking for first hand user knowledge and feedback.

I'm not sure exactly what you were expecting or whether it would be fair to expect it- saying an oil is 'good' or 'bad' could only come after tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of miles on a large fleet of engines.

Most owners treat their antique cars like fragile works of art with excess maintenance being performed on a regular basis. An oil change every three thousand miles on a car that gets driven lightly will never reveal any real fault in a lubricant.

To expand on what Mike said, anecdotal evidence about oil is worthless. You could put non-detergent oil in a vintage Corvette - assuming it's reasonably close to OE configuration and not some drag racing engine - and it would take years at a few hundred to a few thousand miles a year for negative effects to surface.

NCRS members have learned through this forum and The Corvette Restorer about the comparitive lubrication requirements of vintage versus modern engines, the different formulations of currently available engine oils, and the extensive testing that takes place to certify them to various industry standards.

Armed with this knowledge they are able to make intelligent and economical selections for both their vintage and modern cars, and they can ignore the ceaseless marketing hype, myths, misinformation you hear on the street and on the Web.

I give up. I'm sorry I asked if anyone had heard of this oil and had any first hand experience.

              Lets just drop it, please....

Re: Joe Gibbs Hot Rod oil?

Well I heard of it, never used it but the engine machine shop here that I do trust uses it in all his builds. He said it's all he will use and has little if any issue with break in's. Don't know if this helps or not.

I'm sure it carries a tidy profit margin, too.
