Re: 63 Outside mirror question
Ed,
There was an article in the restorer a year ago or so which outlined the removal of the glass to tighten the mirror frame. If you can take the glass out I would think it could be installed in a reproduction frame. There is a metal trim ring holding the mirror in place by removing that ring the mirror should come out.- Top

Re: 63 Outside mirror question
Doing 2 as we speak, I sprayed wd40 around the ring, getting a hold on the ring was a little tricky, but it doesn't set in very far. There is 3 small springs behind the mirror to keep it from ratteling, so don't loose them.- Top

Re: 63 Outside mirror question
Edward, Although it would be nice to install an original dated glass in your repro mirror you still won't pass serious judging with the mirror as the repros have other issues.
You can judge one with your eyes closed. One being the repro. All you have to do is feel the area between the edge of the glass and the outside rim of the mirror to tell the difference. JD- Top

Re: 63 Outside mirror question
If you want to do this right you could always buy a restored original mirror with a new dated glass of your choice installed in it. Chances are you will scratch your old original mirror glass trying to take it out, so it is not really worth while trying, and even if you succeed it is still a reproduction mirror.
