Found this car outside of Seattle. Vin#29. Spoke with original owner who purchased new in November 1961 off the showroom floor of Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland, OR. Was driven up to around 1991 and then put on blocks in the garage. A little less than 49000 miles with original paint and no hit body. It's a base 250/327 with a three-speed, soft top only, and AM-radio. He tossed the radio when it stopped working. Owner said it was on the showroom floor w/red wheels (riveted) and full hubcaps. Tires are replacement Atlas 7.75-15 4-ply Plycron narrow whitewalls. Looks like DOT *05829*. Interior and carpet is original, with only a couple small tears in the seat cushion. Soft top was replaced with a blue one for the red/white/blue effect in 1976 for the Bicentenial USA. Still has a couple of service stickers in the door jam. Dash is original with a slight reddish/orange look to it. Has the cut-out for the power top switch next to the courtesy light. Found a wax marker pencil/crayon in the car. Rebuilding the wheel cyl & cleaning/repacking bearings.

Re: New found 62
Hi John:
Very nice!!
Be sure to request records from Oregon as they are STILL AVAILABLE!!!! Who knows for how long....
I received everything for my 67.
Go to DMV and print out the form and make sure you request they also search purged records. It's likely the best $22.50 you will spend. They have incredible documentation including titles, transfers, liens, etc.
If you need help, let me know or pm me..

Re: New found 62
I received a boatload of information. I just counted 55 pages of paperwork that includes the original California Title received in 1969 plus all titles, tranfers, a death certificate of one owner, liens, etc. I was flabbergasted at the detail. From 1969 to 2008 the car only had three different tags of which I have the last one. I also received mileage statements.
Everyone on here will tell you this is a "thing of the past" in nearly all states so don't hesitate. These records have been purged from their regular records but so far have not been destroyed. When requested, they will search these records as well. You could easily end up with a complete history on your car as I did.- Top

Re: New found 62
I sent an inquiry to the State of Oregon but not sure what they would have. Did the dealer have to file something for new vehicles on the floor. The car was only titled to the original owner in the State of Washington and I have the title signed by the owner. The car was purchased 11/61 and the original title issued the first week of December 1961.- Top
