    rear tail panel installation

I have installed a new tail light panel on my 64 convertible. I used a press molded replacement, and it is bonded in place. The question I have is, now that it is bonded to the car, what is the best way to cover the seams. I have heard suggestions from using just body filler, all the way to grinding a V, and laying fiberglass over them, then block sanding. What is the best course of action to get the best result. Thanks

Agree with Mike. If you don't fiberglass the seam, you may get cracks later between the filler and the fiberglass...then you'll be hot and broken hearted too.

I like to use a shallow vee made by taper grinding about 1-1.5" onto each side of the joint and down to the bonding strip at the joint. Maybe it's overkill, but then I know I have virtually made it into a single piece of fiberglass when I'm done.

I also like to build up the repair a little high, then try to work (grind, sand, etc) the repair to match the contour. It's slow, tedious work (fiberglass is much harder to work than filler), but if you take your time with it, you can pretty much go sans bondo. Leave the scratches and minor contour slip ups to cover with a good heavy primer surfacer...but don't expect miracles from primer surfacer. A tail light panel contour should be pretty easy to match.
