    67 Jack Storage compartment cover

When I restored my car I bought a new jack storage cover and put the repro stickers on the back side including the JP Stevens Carpet sticker. Since then I have decided to remove the new carpet off the repro cover and put it on my original cover and use it since the original stickers are on and still very legible. The one problem I have is that I don't have the JP Stevens sticker on my original cover. Does anyone else have an original jack storage cover without the JP Stevens sticker in place?

    Thanks,

    Lawrence

My Silver car has all three original stickers still on it. They look great. Possibly a former owner scraped it off or it fell off after some years. I am quite confident there was a JP Stevens sticker on there at some point. IMHO I completely agree with your decision to take the repro carpet off the new board and put it on your original. I have been looking for an another original 67 cover for a LONG LONG time for my oother car. Having the original is NICE. Good luck. ARA

When judging interiors, I don't really expect to see the JP Stevens label on the jack compartment lid... Why?

Well, too many times I've seen original jack boards with the JP Stevens label 'bearly' showing or ENTIRELY hidden. That's because the label was hand applied by Stevens at their factory before the jack board was shipped to GM for final assy at St. Louis.

Once the part was in use on the final line, Chevy could care less about whether or not the JP Stevens label was visible on the final vehicle. They cared more about whether the buyer could/would see the labels THEY applied by hand (jacking instructions, Etc.).

Bottom line, I've seen MANY original jack boards where the JP Stevens label was either partially or fully covered by the labels that Chevy applied in St. Louis. So, a 'missing' JP Stevens label may WELL be the result of proper restoration--with that label being UNDERNEATH another.

But, not all interior judges have my experience or mindset. Expect to run into the majority who believe that since the JP Stevens label is mentioned in the JG book, it ought to be visible for inspection/judging. AND, if it's not visible, a deduction is in order. Hogwash!!!

I will look at my original cover and see if I can see a "bump" in the sticker where another label may be.

In any case I am going to pull the new carpet off the repro board and put on the original board. The repro font sticker dates are not exactly the same as the original sticker dates and I was called for that at the National. I guess I will have to get another repro JP Stevens sticker so I don't lose the points even though my car never had it on there...it appears.
