    Re: 57 Duntov cam

Drawing 3736097 was released in 1956 and IIRC from my inspection of the drawing the last change was circa early eighties. Most of the changes were minor clarifications. There were never any material changes to the lobe data.

So there is only one Duntov cam, but you have to be careful. Some aftermarket hot rod cam vendors may modifiy the lobe, but still call it a "Duntov" cam or some slight variation thereof, like "blueprinted" or "modernized" all of which my indicate changes.

Federal Mogul is primarily in the OE/OE replacement parts business, and I have no doubt that their CS113R is manufactured to the 3736097 drawing specifications.

Well darn, another myth destroyed! I was nearly sure that there was a special 097 cam just for FI builders in PA.

Hey Joe Ray, Glad to see you are well and kicking. The later Chevy 097 cams had a milder grind to them.
This info came from Joey DeLorenzo (deceased) and Barry Holmes-still kicking. FI Art

Just my opinion but I would definitely go with the FM 113R.

My local Car Quest has ordered the FM cam for me.
FM Black colored box has this info on it:

              Speed-Pro, Sealed Power. CS-113R
Federal Mogal Corp, Southfield, Mich. Made In USA.
You old timers know that the original part number for this cam was TRW TP113. But that number is history and I shouldn't even mentioned it.
Cam started off life as a TRW cam. Then TRW was bought out by Sealed Power. Then Sealed Power was taken over by FM. Or something like that.

Solid lifter part number is AT 992 from FM.
Let me know if this part number is wrong as doing it from memory.

However I found Crane has a duntov/LT1 verson that Looks like a real winner 110911- 460/480 lift, 290/300 advertised duration and duration @.050 is 228/238 lobe separation 106 deg’s, lash set .022 int/exh. Valves events @.050: IO 12, IC 36, EO 49, EC 9 Longer exhaust duration to accommodate factory closed exhaust.

NO, I do NOT give it my blessing. With that duration a LSA of 106 degrees yields WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much overlap for an effective road engine - even more than the Duntov, which is too much for a 283.

Stick with the LT-1 cam for 327s or 283s with 461 heads. For small port 283s see my recommendations for reindexing the Duntov lobes further up the thread.

That Crane cam might work okay if the LSA is widened to 114 and the POMLs are the same as the L-79 cam. The lift is going to require somewhat more than OE spring force. With OE springs it probably will float the valves before any of the OE mechanical lifter cams, which kind of defeats the purpose of building a high revving engine since a good part of the power sweet spot may be beyond valve train limiting speed.
