Repairing C2 Dash Vinyl

I know things called grain pads are out there in use to this day to repair scuffs and scratches in IP surfaces.

Is there anyone out there that has been successful repairing gouges or scratches on C2 vinyl?

If yes, I'd appreciate their reccomendations.

Yes, there ARE folks who specialize in repairing ripped/torn vinyl. The do-it-yourself repair kits are most likely to result in disappointment. It takes an appreciable learning curve 'apprenticeship' to learn how to get a decent job done with them. Plus, they come with a LIMITED selection of grain pattern sheets.

Those who specialize in doing on-site vinyl repair (primarily serving the hotel/motel/restaurant industry), can actually do wonders! And, they have sources to custom order grain sheets to match a particular fabric pretty much dead nuts on if their 'library' isn't close enough to your material.

You'll have to shop locally (yellow pages) for a craftsman in your area OR ask advice from a local trim shop or restaurant owner...

The most common GM graining styles in those days were "Madrid" and "Seville". I remember when Bob Lutz first came to Chrysler in the late 80's and was taking his first tour of the Design Office (Styling) studios to see what was in the pipeline, he got a discussion going about the graining on vinyl tops (remember those? ), and he didn't care for the grain patterns shown on the clay models for the New Yorker and Imperial. He asked, "I always wondered who was responsible for this Chrysler "elephant-s c r o t u m" grain - whose idea was that?". The studio chief said, "Mr. Iacocca", and Lutz said, "Figures".
