Cleaning up Removed 62 dash cluster-preventative maintenance?

I have removed my 62 dash cluster to clean up it; Repaint it as well as replace the chrome bezels.

My question is, everything works fine (at least it did before I removed it), but now that I have it out, are there any other preventative maintenance things that I should do?

    Thanks,

    Tony

I would clean all contacts and check all bulbs.

Thanks. Since is a pain to acess the bulbs when installed, I am going to replace all bulbs since I now have easy access.

Tony, I agree contacts and bulbs.....one caveat though. I would use good quality bulbs. The offshore bulbs don't last long.

How accurate is the speedometer? Did you ever check it by using a portable GPS with it's built in speedometer? I pulled the cluster on my '59 years back to replace a broken speedo needle. I used a repro. Well, as you could imagine, after reinstalling it I missed one import step. It appears the repro needle was a different weight. Because of that I now have lost my calibration. When I checked it with my GPS after reinstalling, it was off 10MPH! I have to add 10mph to whatever I'm showing on the dial. Lesson learned.

What I'm getting at is you may want to have it professionally calibrated before reinstalling. At least you would be sure.

          Rich,

Thanks for the tips on the speedo. I know that it is sort of close, but not sure how accurate.

As far as bulbs, it seems like everything is made offshore and its hard to know where they come from. Any recommendations on specific bulbs to use? For example, are all GE ones done in the US?

          Thanks,

          Tony

Tony, I'm unsure about where you can buy new good quality today. NOS may be a good source......Ebay???. I just saw some on Ebay John Meissinger is selling the other day but not for the cluster, here & here. Maybe contact him there, or here through a PM.
