    Neal,
I have over 200 of those regulators pulled from original cars myself.
Stop by sometime, you can do a survey.

      Re: 1967 Voltage Regulator Cover

      Scott,

After looking at yours, I took a close look at mine in reflective light like your pictures, trying to find a remnant of a period. Mine was stripped of the paint and repainted, not beadblasted, and seems to have the same spacing as yours in the USA. Has no "THE" in the third line, just MADE IN USA. Date Code on mine is 7F (June 67) on a June 29th car.

I'll be darned, but I cannot find any remnant of a period following the U, S, or A.

Measured the distance between the left side of the U in USA and the right lower side of the A. It is 7/16". If yours is a different distance, it is probably a different die. If the same, the die was probably so worn by June 67 that the periods were gone.

Just having fun on a rainy day.

        Hi Jerry,

The measurement from the left side of the "U" to the right-hand lower point of the "A" is 7/16", same as yours.

Compared to the words "MADE IN", the "U S A" appears to be spaced to allow for the use of periods, whether they are present or not. It would be interesting to see a 515 voltage regulator cover example with pronounced periods for comparison.

As usual, need more data points

Minutia such as this will continue to be problematic lacking valid subsets including clear photos of known OEM installations emphasizing area of concern with sequential analysis.

My V/R is not original to the car. 6L 515 has a period after U and S only. quote=Scott Smith (50839);522467]The example I have is from a restored 1119515 Voltage Regulator dated "6M". It has barely visible periods after the "U" and the "S", but the period after "A" has disappeared, either from worn tooling or possibly from bead-blasting before repaint.[/quote]

Don't over-think this thing. The covers were made in a multi-stage deep-draw progressive die operation, and there was more than one set of tools running at the same time, plus at least one spare set of dies to be run during normal die maintenance or wear replacement. Anyone who thinks that every cover made was absolutely identical during the production life of that cover when running well over 20,000 per day with multiple sets of tools doesn't understand high-volume manufacturing.

I think it reads July of 61, 71, 81, 91,... It depends when part 1119515 was first introduced and if and when it was discontinued.

I just happen to have two original 1119515 Delco-Remy regulators in a box in my basement when I saw this thread.
The one dated "8K" (1968, Oct.) has "MADE IN USA" and has hex head screws with slots.
The one dated "0F" (1970, June) has "MADE IN U.SA (only the period after the letter U) and has regular hex head screws.
I have many other original 1119515 Delco-Remy regulators in some box in my garage that came from salvage yards years ago.
