    64 insulation

    guys
i was paging through the 63-67 fact book and saw a photo of the exterior firewall. the caption stated that there was insulation on the lower panel of the firewall. i could just see an edge of it. has anyone seen this on a car?

    Re: 64 insulation

i think you are referring to the piece that is glued to the interior surface near where the windshield wiper motor shaft comes through the firewall, i don't think early 63 used it , but all the rest of the 63 to 67's had it

i know where you're talking about. this one is on the lower part of the firewall on the engine side where it breaks to an angle. it is silver and looks like hushmat.

Hi Rich Ive seen that on a 64 FI car, a long time ago, it didnt look factory applied, kind a crude looking, but Iam sure it was real. As I remember it was on drivers side only. Phil 8063

          phil:
thanks for reply. now i know i'm not the only one. with what you saw and the photo i saw, it was applied to both sides. so it reduced heat coming thru the floor boards forward. makes sense. i don't get too much heat, as i've put down fresh insulation as original. but maybe hushmat might work on the outside.

Very early production cars for 64 did indeed have some sort of insulator pad glued to the toe pan on the engine side. I only remember seeing one such car decades ago.
There was some GM "new products" info on this in 64 but I don't remember where I saw it. Maybe Corvette News or the New Product info sent to dealers prior to release of the new model.
