    Redying interior questions

    1969 coupe.
Would like to make a color change on a Red car/Saddle interior, cp.
    1) What is the best dye product?
    2) Apx. how much product (cleaner/prep/dye) will be needed to insure excellent results?
    3) Any tips on quality outcome?

Carpet and seat covers will be new, all other panels/dash pieces will be dyed.

    Thanks in advance,
    George

Oh, owner is leaning towards red interior with white trim.

I don't care who's vinyl dye products you use, here's what you can expect:

    (1) Getting the vinyl surfaces CLEAN before you apply the dye is a BIG deal.
    (2) Most who sell vinyl dye also sell companion products to 'condition' the vinyl surface before applying the dye--it's VITAL.
    (3) Shooting at the right ambient temperature and allowing the dye to absorb and dry fully is also key.

When all this is said and done, expect surfaces that come in contact to human touch and/or see rubbing/abrasion, to 'shed' their new color over time. Bottom line, most will look good...for a while...

All that Jack said. In addition the humidity is a concern. If you have high humidity you will get white spots on your work. I used a hair dryer to help with the drying and reducing the chance of whiting.

I have used Just Dashes dying products with great success.

SEM automotive interior dye. NAPA sometimes has it; automotive paint suppliers will have it.

Take one of your new seat covers to a SEM dealer and let them match the color.

Clean, clean, clean. Panels to be dyed have to be super squeaky clean.

          SEM shoots like lacquer.
