After installing the hollow carburetor mounting stud in the L.R. position on a 300h.p. manifold, there is only a thread or two exposed for the nut to engage. I have a 3/8" heat insulator, metal heat shield, and gasket under the A.F.B. A stud that could be original, is 2 1/8" overall, 1/2" coarse thread that goes into the manifold, no shoulder, 3/4" fine threads for the nut , and 11/16" smooth stud for the vacumn hose. A repro stud is the same overall length, 7/16" inch coarse thread, 1/4" no threads, 5/8" fine threads, and 3/4" smooth for the vacumn hose. The result is the same for both studs, though. I only have a thread or two exposed for the nut to engage. There do not seem to be enough threads to install the stud partially into the manifold, to end up with more threads on top of the carburetor flange.
I checked the articles in the archives, but am still not clear.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
