    63 radiator decal/label/marking

What decal, label or marking should be on the top left, aft portion of my 63 radiator to be correct?
Judging also mentioned something about S.N. to have 16CT "63F" under radiator and mounting on cooling/chassis section of judge sheet, not sure what that means.
    Thanks,
    John

Loaded question on a 63. Maybe this will help. From the 5th edition JG.

John, Make sure you have the correct Harrison label. My Feb/March car should have the real thick one on it. Got dinged for the thin one. JD

The attached pic shows the proper decals/markings.

          1. Depending on the build date, the Harrison label on right should be either foil or a plate (early-build plate is shown)

          2) Green inspection number ("8" shown, other numbers possible) randomly located on left side

          3) Part number and date stamped on front left of radiator top

          4) "CAUTION" Label on left side under part number

NOTE: "16CT" should not be on a 63 radiator

Please ignore the clamp anomalies, those worm clamps were temporary to insure sealing you don't get from the POC tower clamps shown too far out on hose.

            Mike,
That is perfect, thank you. Does the caution label also go on the expansion tank? Same label, or? Guess the judging was wrong on the 16CT, need my points back there! Thank you again. John

              John,

I had the 16CT stamp on my black car, but some time ago Michael Hanson noted here that it shouldn't be present on 63's, so I took it off. There never was such a stamp on my blue Duntov car (shown in the pic).

My November-build blue car had only an inspection number on the expansion tank, no caution label. I've never seen another such caution label on a car, but I think the JG says it could have one. I'm not adding it.

OK, would you think the inspection number on the rad shoulod be the same number as on the expansion tank, or?

All of the car I've seen have different numbers on the rad and expansion tank, but I don't think there was any reason why they couldn't be the same. Someone else here might have more insight on this...

John, This is a February 27th built coupe we owned for 2 1/2 years. Original radiator stamped 63A. It appeared to always have the foil label on right side. When I freshened up the radiator and painted it I carefully masked the very "original" looking foil decal. I added the decal on the left.

I think they dinged you wrongly.

Richard. My 63 radiator is a nice Tom DeWitt Radiator. The original is still upstairs under a bed for the last 20 years or so. It's a 63B and has the thin plate/decal on it.
But when the car was judged the boys thought it should have the thick plate. Didn't deduct for the repro rad though. Just the plate. Think the judge was Dr. Chew.

                        Rich/John,
My rad has 63F stamped in it, so should be correct for July 63 car?, I know it is original rad. I had the CT stamped on it where the "caution" label should be, had caution label on the expansion tank, so will change that. I can still see the old green number 3 on my rad, so will put a new one over it.
They also dinged me for the horns, but I know from other posts mine are right for 63. Also my painted half shafts, but have seen those to be correct too, so just many things on the 63's the judges do not have quite correct.
Thanks for the assist on these items. With all my 'corrections' now, should get to at least 98 point car next time out, but of course may find 'new' deducts too!
                        John

                          Hi Mike,

I bought a new Dewitt's rad for my '63 a couple of years ago and it has the 16CT stamp on it.

I would like to remove the stamp without leaving too much of a trace.
                          How did you remove yours?

I would have liked to give you an elegant solution, Syd, so this probably isn't what you want to hear: I was going to try polishing compound, but then I noticed that some of the black paint peeled off easily...so I used paint remover on the whole radiator top, sanded it, and re-painted it. Had to get a new foil sticker, inspection number, and Caution sticker. Oh well...it wasn't the original radiator anyway.

                              Syd,

Try a bit of WD-40 on a soft cloth. It's fish oil so it shouldn't hurt the paint. Try a inconspicuous area first to be sure.
