    1962 Door Post Removal Help???

    Hello,

I started pulling all of the chrome off my vette to get it rechromed and I have a question about removing the door posts and a few other parts.

    1. I see in the AIM that there are 3 screws/bolts from the inside panel area and one that goes in through the front. I was able to remove the 3 side ones but not sure what to do about the front one. The AIM states that it is filled in. I see what appears to be a quarter size outlined area under the weather stripping. Do I drill this out? What do I do?

    2. My 2nd question is on removing the door lock level. Does it attach just like the window crank with a clip? I can't see between it and teh panel to figure out what to do to get it off.

    3. Last question for now. I think the answer is yes, but I am going to ask. In order to remove the 2 chrome end pieces on the windshield, do I need to completely remove the windshield frame from the car?

Thanks for all of the help,

    Tony

the front one is filled with putty then a thin coat of fiberglass adhesive is applied, gently with a hammer and small screw driver, pop it out and save so you can reinstall. lock knob retainer just like window crank only smaller, windshield must be off to remove posts, if the weatherstrip cooperates you can leave the stainless in place, but you'll probably want to have it polished, leave the upper stainless attached to the channel

Thanks for the info. I have the doors open now and the door posts removed. Not too bad of a job.

This was a productive afternoon. All of the chrome on the car is off for the exception of the door handles, and windshield posts. Next on my list.

      Thanks again,

      Tony

I am not 100% sure as of yet. I am trying to find a place here in New England.

So far on my list I have D&S Plating in Holyoke, MA that has been well recommended.

          Do you have any recommendatons?

            Anthony,

After removing the the wind shield posts, it's a good time to inspect the front tabs. If you see any hairline cracks, have them machined before plating.
