    Assembly Plant car covers?

    Hello;
    Anyone have pictures from the sixties of Auto transporters with car covers on the cars to hide them before announcement day?
    I had several from Janesville until about 2005 when the last one was finally beyond use and threadbare. The ones we had fit Nomads perfectly.
    It was very suspenseful to have the cars hidden until announcement day.
    Always wondered why the covers didn't rub through the paint? Especially the lacquer paints.
    Thank you.

    Ray -

    Yup, just happen to have some. First photo below shows the standard Chevrolet-issued cover we used at the Chevrolet Pilot Line, on a hand-made '69 Caprice Manufacturing Prototype in 1967. Second photo shows a truckload of '68 Impala/Caprice Pilot jobs leaving the Pilot Line in 1967 for Chevrolet Engineering, 50 miles down I-75.

    Note the small zippered opening on the left side of the windshield to see out of, and the larger zippered opening on the side that allowed opening the door without removing the cover.

    The covers DID beat up the paint - they had to be buffed-out at the destination. Today everything goes in enclosed Reliable trucks.
