My car originally had a U79 stereo system. By the time I purchased it, the head unit was gone but all other components are present. I have another head unit but it neads a new connector (at least). One of the speakers also needs its cloth face replaced. Can anyone recommend someone who repairs these and has the capability to test the entire system?

Re: Recommendations to repair U79 stereo
This was taken from the NCRS archives using the Search feature for radios.
Member Jerry Rudbeck does a very nice job repairing and restoring these radios. He may be able to give you a lead as to where to find just what you need.

Re: Recommendations to repair U79 stereo
Hi Mike,
I can recommend Jerry too. He repaired the am/fm radio from my 71. He did good work at a reasonable price.
Also, he actually answers the phone and talks to you when you call... which is quite rare these days.

Re: Recommendations to repair U79 stereo
I agree with the all the rest, Jerry did a killer job on my '71 U79 system. Great communicator and charges are extremely reasonable.
Good Luck

Re: Recommendations to repair U79 stereo
I just had Larry at Ray's Auto stereo repair my 78 AM-FM 8 Track. It works well and was completed in several weeksHe can also have your stock speakers re-coned, but you should ask if they can use a fabric on the face similar to the original.

Re: Recommendations to repair U79 stereo
Hopefully you have gotten to Jerry by now.. You will not be disappointed. He not only repairs them, he repairs them properly... He pays attention to little things like the station indicator matching the frequency really tuned in.... one would think things like that would be obvious to a repair shop, but guess what!
He did the AM unit for my '63 and repaired the Wonderbar feature.. He also pointed me to a source for a correctly matched speaker (the ones you get from the typical suppliers do not match properly in spite of their physical appearance). My "system" plays beautifully... just like it did back in '63!
