I am looking for the correct Rochester carb for my L79. I was talking with Collin Macdonald today, he stated there is a Carb guy in the midwest that has an extensive inventory. Would anyone know this gentleman? Thanks, Jeff

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
I believe you are looking for a 7028219 for that application. I spent about 3 years looking for a core. They are rare and expensive. I found one at Chicago Corvette a couple years back. They wanted $600 for a core.
Best of luck finding one!- Top

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
You guys are great.Much appreciated for all your help. In looking up past judging sheets my julian code was 3567 . I was once told that this date is on the bottom plate. Is that correct ? Jeff68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
As you search, bear in mind 'QJet' for this era is NOT a single entity... There were two active sources of supply: Rochester and Carter. The stamping and date coding systems used by the two suppliers differed. Details are given in your copy of the Judging Guide book.- Top

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
Jeff,
I believe, and others will correct me if I'm wrong, the date code on a Q jet carb is at the base plate and is a separate part piece, able to be exchanged easily. So with that said, if you find the correct Q jet carb number, the date plate will not be as difficult to find. Finding the correct numbered Q-jet carb is the trick.Terry Buchanan

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
Yes, I believe Terry is correct the base plate could be changed. Rochester stamping is on the drivers side rear boss of the carb. Date code is on the base plate. Based on your carb date code (about 22nd of December 1967) it looks like you have a 1968 built near the 1st of the 1968 calendar year ??- Top

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
Yep. 1968 dated the carb on the base plate edge. I believe 1969 and up dated on the carb body so it makes getting a correct carb date somewhat easier than if it was part of the carb body.
Question: Where is a good source for q-jet base plates?- Top

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
I'm going to check my base plate. I was told by a Chapter judge that I had the wrong carb. Is there still the number 7028219 on the side of a 68 Q Jet carb?68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: 68 Rochester Quad Hunt
Jeff
YES. It still has the 7000000 series number on the body (in 1968) but without the julian date code. That date was on the base plate in 1968. I believe sometime in 1969 the julian date went just below the carb number, all on the body of the carb. No date then on the base plate.- Top
