    66 L79 Distributor

My 66 327/350 is in for some work. This car is NOT a flight candidate by any means but it does have a correct block and trans and rear, so I don't want to drift any further away.

My friend is doing the work at his shop and pulled the distributor because I asked him to send it out to be checked because I think it needs it. He told me the band says it's a 300 hp distributor. More than that I do not know.

What is the difference between the 300 and 350 distributors? Are they 2 completly different units, or can one be made into the other?

    Or should I care?

    Thanks

    Rich,

According to the 66 TIM&JG, the 300HP distributor is GM # 1111153, and possibly 1111117 with A.I.R. and Powerglide. The 350 HP distributor is 1111156 w/o TI and 1111157 with TI.

      Rich -

They're identical except for the advance calibration parts - the centrifugal advance weights and springs, the shape of the "football" on top of the mainshaft, and the vacuum advance unit. Doesn't really matter - anyone with a Sun machine (or a dial-back timing light) can replicate the desired centrifugal advance curve.

Thanks. I should have looked in the TM&JG myself.

John, I was hoping I would hear the answer you gave.
