    1967 master cylinder

Is a non-power brake master cylinder for a '67 supposed to have bleeder screws above the brake line connection or none at all? Thanks.

ALL master cylinders used for 1967 Corvettes have the bleeder screws.

Thank you for the clarification regarding the presence or absence of bleeder screws. Is there a reputable source to purchase original rebuilt and SS sleeved MC's for a '67 or is it best just to buy a new unit from one of the common suppliers (LI Corvette, Ecklers, Zip Products etc.)? My MC has been replaced at some point prior to my ownership of the car and it is incorrect as it does not have the bleeders. I'd like to get an original unit or correct reproduction but could not find any references to suppliers of such components in the archives. Member help, as always, is appreciated. Thanks again.

You have many options. The 1967 master cylinder used for all applications except J-56, the "DC"-coded 5455509, is not rare. They were also used for 1968+ manual brake applications, although only those through about 1973 had the bleeder valves. Most had a small date embossed on the forward brake line boss but the exception was most 1967 which had no dates. You should be able to find an appropriate brass or stainless steel sleeved unit without too much difficulty.

The new reproductions of the '509' master cylinder are excellent, too. There may be some slight nuance differences between the reproductions and originals, though. I have not noted any definitive differences but some folks always seem to find something, real or imagined.

I just got the reproduction from Zip, DB-692.

Very nice, with the "DC" stamp etc. I haven't installed it yet but it certainly looks nice.

The unit is made by CSSB in Miami. Full Description Here.

I see that they also offer date coding for a nominal fee. Were all 67 MCs date coded? Would a May 5th have this dated?

I don't think that most 67's had a date code on the master cylinder. Some may have, though. I don't think that anyone could say, for certain, one way or the other for any particular car. So, I'd say take your pick. 1968 and later usually do have the date code, though, and one would probably get "dinged" for a master cylinder without a date code.
