    1964 rad support shims

I am replacing the rad support. Were "u" shaped shims placed under it to align the side mounting holes? Were the shims loose around the bottom mounting bolts? My AIM seems to show shims at random.
    Thx

    Ralph,
There were shims under and at the sides and they were at random ,as needed to fill in the space before tightening. They should be all tight when done. The nnew support should be the same size as the one you removed and it should use the same amount of shims in the same areas if your lucky.

Actually the support shims on the frame were welded to the frame. I think they were checked on the jig at the same time the body shims were determined and the shim pack was welded to the frame at that time.

        Wayne -

That's correct - photo below shows the spring-loaded plunger on the frame fixture that determined the shim pack for the #1 body mount; there was another one at the front of each frame rail to determine that shim pack, but it's obscured in the photo behind the upper control arm.
