I can find no reference to GM #3836595. If it was available only as part of a kit and not available separately, that's not surprising. There are many parts that are a component of a kit which are not available separately. In fact, that's the rule and not the exception. This is not the same for part numbers that are assigned to a "UNIT". Parts that are a component of a "UNIT" are often available separately. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Part # Q for Jorjorian/Joe Lucia
P/N 3852257 was released on 6-20-1963, however there was a P/N 3816235 called out for the base motor (250 hp) in the 1962 assembly manual. Interestngly the 62 assy manual doesn't show the installation of the central 327 label, but the 1963 assembly manual does. That would lead one to believe that Flint installed the central one and St. Louis the HP one in 62, and the roles were reversed in 1963?
Of interest is the fact that the 365 horsepower (3850520) and 375 horsepower (3853877) decals, new for 64, are very close, numerically, to the 3852257 250 horsepower decal and would have most likely been released at about the same time.
I'm convinced that the 250 HP decal was never used for 62 or 63.
In the 63 AIM, the 3816235 that you mention is the "327 Turbofire" sticker. Not a horsepower decal. It was replaced early in the 63 model year with a 3832180 sticker. (about the time the new design 327 valve cover entered production.
I think the original "327 Turbofire" sticker was a two part with a peel off top. I would guess that this means that the sticker was on the valve cover before engine paint and the peel off top would be removed after paint? (same as the Tonawanda valve cover sticker for 67 and later)Last edited by Michael H.; November 9, 2010, 11:16 PM.- Top

Joe , Drwg Release date.
Mike, on a 1963 assy chart for the engine from Flint it indicates the Corvette engine rocker cover had a 327 label on it. Trying to determine what that label was.- Top

The early 63 release of the new 3832180 that replaced the 3816236 "327" sticker is shown as being installed at the St Louis plant.Last edited by Michael H.; November 10, 2010, 12:28 AM.- Top

Re: Part # Q for Jorjorian/Joe Lucia
If the date of the drawing was 6-20-63, I doubt that the part itself would have been released prior to the start of the 1964 model year. In fact, with that drawing date, it might not even have been ready for release at the beginning of the model year, although for a piece like these labels the time from drawing to release of the actual part might have been shorter than hard parts. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Part # Q for Jorjorian/Joe Lucia
Close up of 63 AIM sheet. Note that the sticker shown is the 3832180 "327 Turbofire" plate in the center of the valve cover. (new design that entered production in April 63)
There is no mention of a 250 horsepower decal. If it was supposed to be there, it would be in the list of parts at the top of the page.
Later, we'll move on to part two of the 250 HP decal discussion.Last edited by Michael H.; November 11, 2010, 06:34 PM.- Top
