    65 202 coil

Who makes the GM reproduction 202 coils? I've seen it in LIC.
Are all the repros the same look and electrical quality?
    Thanks

    John,
They are detectable from originals and you will lose something on originality on the judging field. 202 is the most common number so you should be able to find a nice working original for not much more than a reproduction. One can only guess what is inside the repro GM coils made out of the country.

Hi John, Listen to Dave Strickland and buy an original/NOS 202. Readily available you know John.
Priced all over the board but you should be able to get a nice NOS one without breaking the bank. After all a 202 is one of the most common Corvette coils out there. 107's and 091's are tough to find but not 202's.
At the fleas 202's are all over the place. JD

        Thanks Dave and John,
I'll keep my eyes open, I've got plenty of time to look.

          John,
I got a NOS one on ebay for $98.00 a year or so ago and it is the real deal. Just bookmark "202 coil" and a few a week will pop up.

              L K,
I thought original coils were embossed with the last three digits of the number and "12V"--not the number stenciled on as on the e-Bay listing you reference?

That one is no good for judging. It has silkscreened information and not the proper embossment. It would function properly but not judge properly.

They're still out there. Pic [on the left] shows one I pulled from a junkyard '67 Corvair. The NOS in-the-box (pull-string attached) cost me $40. on eBay a few months ago (plus S/H). I'm afraid to open it , although I suspect the embossed characters will not be as "crisp" as those produced during regular production.

                    Wayne,
I'm still looking for an NOS 202.......I bought a GM licensed repro and it lacks only the four holes......two of which are used for the "tab" on the little post plate at the connections ( I suppose these holes could be carefully drilled?). The coil on my '66 when purchased had a 115 coil--anyone know what that number was used on? I might want to sell it if it has any value.

That coil is one of the last ones serviced, manufactured by who knows? Post Delco/delphi. Look for one with the pull-top can

                        Les,
I saw one of those earlier and the Delco box said made in Japan. But it is New(never used) and it is Old Stock. Who knows if the owner is trying to decieve?
                        Thanks for the link.

One of the more interesting things about the Delphi spinoff from Gm was that GM retained the AC-Delco merchandising trademarks, which allowed them to but virtually any vendor's part into the Delco box and sell it in the aftermarket. String pull boxes should have actual NOS parts, the flap top boxes are "buyer beware" for restoration.

                            Wayne and all
I'm in no hurry and will be going to a local junkyard next week and then hopefully to the biggest junkyard in Vermont if he's still open.
Went there a couple of years ago and had a tour, amazing, and my buddie bought a 67 351 block. Well organized with something like 7 acres of cars and a couple of huge German Shepherds. Looking for coil, horn relay voltage regulator.

You might want to do more research before trying to drill the 202 coil. I have several of the embossed 202 Delco coils & the ones I have do not have the 4 drilled holes on the top next to the + & - connections. The 087's & 091 coils I have are drilled. The 270, 207, & 263 I have are not drilled. All of these coils have the raised Delco on the top & the embossed number & the "12V" on the side of the metal case.
