67 turn signal wires routing

Hi all,
My turn signal wiring just hangs down and is not strapped or clipped to the steering column. I reviewed the assembly manual, as well as the catalogs to try to find out how it attaches or gets strapped to the steering column and can not find info. I have a non-tele column, Is there a rod that the wiring gets clipped on to? I had read some threads in the archives that on a 63 I think it is taped to the column with electrical tape, but I have OJ'd on enough 67s I have never seen that on a 67. ANy help is always appreciated. THanks. ARA

Ara,I just looked up a problem I had w/66.The post was on dec.30/2008.

There's a metal clip on the dash harness side of the curved connector, that pushes onto the horizontal flange on the bottom left edge of the pedal support; photo below shows what it looks like in place, although you can't see the clip. See your Assembly Manual, UPC 12, sheet B3, where it shows "Harness conn. (clip to bracket)".

Thanks SO much. That picture is EXACTLY what I needed. I got it routed correctly this morning, but the metal clip is missing from my harness that attaches the wiring to the pedal assembly, so now the search begins for one of those....Thanks as always for the insight......You really help us ALL out....Regards

John,

This picture was very, very helpful with my 67 project.

On that note, I found 2 black ground wires at the steering column with very "thin" copper clips. The clips are so flimsy I wonder if they are in fact "clips". The wires terminate right about at the steering column mounting plate.

Any ideas?

That is the wires for the Brake pedal switch capacitor. Disconnect the plug from your Brake switch. Place the copper tangs one each into the brake switch wire connectors and then plug the connector back onto the brake switch.

Joe, any idea how critical this is to the electrical system?

I found everything ok, the capacitor is pretty buried. Trying to position the wires is difficult, if not impossible with the length of the wires and the steering column.

I'm assuming the column needs to come out to re-connect this?

I tried pulling the brake switch out, but this is proving to be a trick.

I'm assuming this brake light switch was replaced at some point and this wiring discarded........

If the capacitor is mounted on the same side as the brake light switch the wires should be long enough. It should be an easy task!!

It's mounted inside the plate that supports the steering column.

The brake light wire has no play in it, trying to keep the capacitor clips on
the brake light switch and plug it in isn't happening.

This one has the original dash harness....ugghhhhh.

Right now my side is sore from trying to get in there.

Note that the color code of the switch harness is slightly different than the wiring in the main harness.

Aftermarket harnesses have a different color code than originals

Great info mine is disconnected too brake lights work though what does the capasitor do?

Keeps the noise out of the radio when you step on the brake.
