    Need TI Pickup Coil help!

I'm having an intermittant problem I believe is related to the TI. Box, grounds and coil are ok.

I have checked the pickup coil and usually reads 670 ohms. I had it jump around a bit moving wires but it could have been a poor meter connection. My question is when you move the rotor, the ohms jump all over the place but go back to about 670 when I stop moving it. Is this normal or a symtom of a problem?

    Thanks for any help.

I think the movement is inducing a current in the coil and affecting the ohms reading.

I now understand that moving the rotor will cause the ohms to jump around.

The car starts instantly when turning the key and never cuts off.

The problem is I seem to have an intermittant miss at idle. Sometimes the car runs fine then it sounds like a miss through the exhaust. Afterwards, pulling the plugs usually reveals they are black like it is running rich.

Before rebuilding the engine the carbs were perfect and we replaced the ignition system entirely. That's why I leaned toward an ignition problem. I ave switched the box and coil but not the pickup coil.

It must be that, although unproven or I have developed a carb problem during a 1 month rebuild of the engine? (I did change all the seat/valve assemblys to no avail.)

those TI systems either work or don't work i have seen nothing in between. make sure the wires from the pickup coil are not reversed as they have a + and - and will cause erratic running if switched.

Also check the wires to the ignition coil. I think they are connected opposite to that of a standard ignition. I've read it takes about 8000 more volts to fire if connected backwards. Don't know whether that applies to TI though.
