    Steel (iron?) rivet source?

What is a good source for the steel (iron?) rivets that hold reinforcements, brackets etc to the body? What sizes and head styles are required? I would like to buy a selection and have what I need on hand.

    Thanks

    Mike,

Iron isn't used for rivets as it is too brittle. I'd be very surprized if steel was used for any application involving a fiberglass substrate. Most generally soft aluminim where fiberglass is involved, but I'm sure there are exceptions. Use a magnet to help dissern the difference in the rivets in your application.

With steel or aluminum there is a VERY wide range of material alloys and heat treatments used for rivets. Without engineering or techincal quidance documentation, you will need to use the TLAR or TFAR method to decide which to use.

TLAR - That Looks About Right

TFAR - That Feels About Right

    good luck,

Mike, all the brackets that I removed and replaced had aluminum rivets. They can be sourced from about any Corvette dealer catalog

I asked because I recall that the surface of the rivets looks rusted. If the rivets are aluminium then I already have every size (currently building a kit plane).

Headlight retention springs in the C1 headlight buckets, are held in with steel rivets. The headlight adjusters use steel rivets. These can be purchased with the headlight adjusters. Also the bezel mounts are secured with steel rivets trhat come with the kit.
