    1984 Door Lock Question

I need some door lock help. The rod that runs from the door handle to the door lock mechanism just sticks down through a hole in the door lock mechanism. This rod is bent so it will push down on the mechanism when the door handle is pulled up to open the door. My problem is ...this rod has no clips, screws, bolts, etc. to hold it in place and it is free to rattle back and forth.

I have a factory service manual, but it does not show anything that I can see holding this rod in place. Maybe I could slip a piece of rubber tubing over the rod to keep it from banging against it's attachment point.

I am attempting to attach a picture showing this rod and the bracket it inserts into. You can see a round hole on the side of the bracket that looks like a bolt or something should go through to secure the rod and keep it from rattleing.

Thanks to anyone for their help.

Thanks Dave for the reply. Good idea the washers might work for me because the rod does not push against the lever hard enough to let the door open easily. Maybe a combination of washers and rubber tubing will make the door open easier and keep it quiter also.

Thanks again for your help. Maybe someday I will get this 84 back on the road.
