    Insurance

I am currently looking for a new insurance company to insure mid-year Corvettes. I live in Indiana and I keep fire and theft thru the winter (the cars go to bed for the winter) and then full coverage starting April for the summer months. Who do you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Bill

check with Adam Boca at the NCM, as your buying the policy helps to support the NCM

      Re: Insurance

If you search the archives this subject has been discussed many times. I personally would recommend a specialty company and am very satisfied with Hagerty. They provide full coverage, zero deductible year round insurance. I too live in the snow belt (Iowa) but there are a few times when it is nice to get the car out. Don H.

        Re: Insurance

If you compare the specialty like Hag, and the others to a half year insure and half fire and theft, you will find the full year with the collector car insurance will be cheaper than regular insurance.

Try Haggerty. Full coverage year round at a better price than regular insurance.

            Hi Bill,

Just thought I would say Hello. Thanks for your hospitality when I was in Battle Ground and got to stay in your lovely house.

            Drive that car!

Hey Jim - how are you doing with your car history search!

FWIW, could all be stated value and area/ city of the country dependent...

American Collectors had a better price for me this year, so I switched.

                Hi,
I've been using J.C.Taylor through my local insurance agent. I've not had any claims but the couple of times I've called them with a question I actually got to talk to a live person... kinda rare these days.
Their prices seem to be in line with the other specialty car insurers.
                Regards,
                Alan

I concur--and with "regular" insurance, be careful to know what you're buying--a typical fair market value policy or an agreed value policy (Hagerty is agreed value, and the typical regular insurance policies, even ones that State Farm calls a collector car policy, are fair market value policies).

Hagerty. I have never had a claim, but they seemed very profession whenever I have spoke to them. Whoever you you decide to go with make sure you get agreed value.

                      Re: Insurance

to give you a general idea of a company like state farm, agreed upon values require that you keep coverage year round. my examples of cost are 55 corvette, $1000 deductable for an agreed value of $95,000 cost $150.00 every six months. 59 corvette, $85,000, $1000 deductable, $145 every six months. the cars i have with the normal policies can have all coverages dropped except if you want to keep comprehensive while it is in storage. examples with just comprehensive 74 corvette, $50 deductable, $14.23 every six months, 86 corvette, $250 deductable, $24.76 every six months.

Hagerty. Period. End of discussion. They know their stuff, and like many others have said, a full year of good, agreed value coverage will cost you less than the split year of what I bet, in the event of a claim you would find out in the fine print when the adjuster tells you, is ACV coverage.

Have all my collector cars with Hagerty. Had the occasion to have dinner with a west coast VP this summer. Naturally, dinner conversation was pretty much centered around insurance. I was amazed at the level of coverage they have on the policies and the odd things that are or can be covered. Also, I learned they will cover in progress restorations. To update coverage on the project, provide documentation as to percentage completed and estimated new value. Call them and discuss the details you will be pleased you did. If you have a collection of cars, be sure to discuss discounts too.
