    Tim,
You made me want to start on my 63 after looking at that picture of your compartment.

Looks brand new, maybe I ought to try that next time.

Have you had it judged? How did it do?

With mine, although not perfect, got no points off on finish twice at judging. Got 1 point off one time on originality because I wiped off a couple of the ink stamps on the diodes with the mag cleaner, darn.
At the chapter level everything went great, no deduct. I Think as Joe L. says they almost have a little appearance of a beaded finish.

I used Aluma-Jelly to clean mine up. It's very mild and took a while to get every surface clean and shade matched. Apply evenly and let it sit before brushing with a stiff brush. I started with a brass brush but the alternator took on a slightly bronze look so don't do that.

I've been using Rust-Oleum Rust Inhibitor on all my natural finished parts for the last couple of years and I'm happy with it. It sprays on like heavy WD-40 and dries visually undetectable. It's a little waxy to the touch after it dries and has held up well.

          Michael,
Is that rustolium rust inhibiter a clear coat paint?

It is not a paint coat and does not dry hard like paint. Like I say it sprays on like a thick WD-40 spray and takes a little while to dry. You have time to brush it or just spread it with your fingers if you want. Since it is not paint I don't think it will ever flake-off or discolor. I did all my natural finished suspension parts, drive line and half shafts with it plus a number if natural finished underhood items over 2 years ago and they still look fresh.

It does say if you are going to paint the part at a later time the product has to be removed with a solvent like acetone or minerial spirits.

Interesting. Never heard of that stuff.
