1967 Power Steering Pump Pulley 3734720

I need the cast iron single groove power steering pump pulley for a 1967 L79 327 with no other pertinent options. The assembly manual and the GM parts book show this pulley having part number 3834720. However, some pulleys being sold for this application and claiming to be NOS have the number "3834270 GM" appearing as a white paint notation on the back side of the pulley.

Can someone explain why the advertised NOS pulley displays the number 3834270 and not the correct part number 3834720? Does this discrepancy indicate an inferior reproduction?

    Thanks for your assistance.

The part number for the pulley was definitely GM #3834720----no doubt about that. I can tell you that the last available GM SERVICE pieces did have a part number printed on them in white or yellow ink. I sort of doubt that reproductions would have any such part number printed on them since no such printed part number was ever used in PRODUCTION. So, my expectation is that the pulley in question is a GM SERVICE pulley which had an erroneous part number printed on it. This sort of thing can happen.

However, I could not rule out the possibility that this is some sort of bogus "copycat" type part. I doubt it, but it is a possibility.
