    Looking for a 1970 Starter 1108400 0

    Hey guys anyone have or know where I can find a starter for my 1970 454
    Part number is 1108400 0 A or B date coded.

    I've tried most of the normal contacts but seems to be a hard find.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark, I bought a dated starter for my 1970 350/350 Corvette a few months ago from John Pirkle Sr. He knew exactly what I needed and came highly recommended by other NCRS members. I found his delivery, workmanship and price to be excellent. My high compression motor turns over better than ever.

      I hope that date code is real important to you because it's going to take you a LONG time to find it and it's going to be very expensive when you do.

          Mark the reason Joe said that is the starter your are looking for is very difficult to find. People have been looking for years for a correct dated 400 starter. They check all the possible resources to obtain the correct one starter restorers, every swap meet they can attend, local starter alternator rebuild shops and etc.

          Check the search engine for the discussion board and type in 1108400 and you will see you are not alone in you quest. Good luck.

            Beware of some of the rare starters and alternators you find of Fleabay. There are some, shall we say, unscrupulous characters selling restamped parts

                  An 1108400 starter with a date code of "0 A" or "0 B" could only have originated from 2 sources:

                  1) A 1970 Corvette with 454 and 4 speed transmission built during about 2 months of 1970 production. I'd estimate the number of cars to be about 900;

                  2) A SERVICE starter manufactured during this 2 month period. I doubt there were very many of these 1108400 starters manufactured for GMSPO at that time since the SERVICE demand for this starter in NEW condition would have been very low at that time. Maybe 100-200 were manufactured for SERVICE with this date and I expect that's a VERY high estimate.

                  So, what you're looking for is 1 of about 1,000 starters EVER MADE with that part number and those dates on them. The vast majority of those are probably "floating around anonymously" in an absolute SEA of rebuilt starters out there----probably many millions of units since the starter frame (the part with the numbers stamped on it) for an 1108400 starter could be used by a commercial rebuilder to make up just about any other starter for a GM application.

                      Mark, What was the deduct on the starter in the car now? 4 OR 5 Points? its seems like you may spend alot of money for a few points. The date and part no. seems like just a date and configuration problem. if everything else is up to spec. (finish, solonoid,sheilding).I saw your car at marborugh meet a few years ago. nicely done. and was OJ ing with Dave S. on the mechanical section. I am sure you must be close to getting a Top Flite.

                          Hi Mark,
                          I saw an 1108400 starter dated 0D22 on ebay for $420.00. I don't know how to post the link, but if you still need one, and an 0D date works for you, check it out. Hope it helps.
