Quality of Reproduction AstroVent. Door Glass

    Hey ---

Does anyone know if the repro door glass is good for judging?
Car has AstroVent. glass. The window has a couple scratches in it and the "new to be owner" wanted to know if he swapped it out with new glass, would there be a large deduct. He is ANAL as all hell and can't stand the scratches. I remember reading in the JM there is a configuration difference between original and repro door glass - something about the script and/or reflectivity.

Does anyone think having the scratches buffed out is a viable alternative?
One is pretty deep, the others are normal sort of scratches.

Both times I had the car judged it was only a couple point deduct.

I felt the originality was more inportant then the perfect look of new glass.

    Any insight is always appreciated.

Bill, the last time I was a OJ the, one of the things that understand is the repro side glass is thinner than the originals, not sure about the script.

Ive been looking for a mid year car, just a small block car. 63-64 they seem to be the cheapest.

Bill sorry your selling the Big Block but life goes on.

About the glass I do not know if this carries over to all glass but this past summer I judged exterior on a 63 or 4 do not remember. The passenger side glass was a reproduction and if you would look at the glass down the side of the car from about 10-30 deg angle. Small circles of haze would appear I have noticed this on my wife 85 Corvette and all most all new cars. So to me the new glass that is used may all have this characteristic and if a judge can pick this and or the change in thickness deductions would happen.

Just some info that I picked up along the way. If the scratches are small the deduction maybe very minor compared to a reproduction if picked up by the judge would be 20% Configuration, 20% date and possible 20% for the finish due to the haze.

                Thanks Paul....

I have - since writting this post earlier - convinced the new owner to get the scratches polished out, best as possible.
I told him, if were me this would be my approach.
He agreed and this is how things will proceed.

                As for the car --
You guys will be seeing it in the future, without me owning it.
Larry wants to take the long ride to Duntov. I told him what I went through just to get the 97% and PV, but it did not seem to sway him any.

                And I quote him....
" I will just pay you your hourly wage to make sure the car is ready"

What he has not figured out yet - its about $85.00 per hour.
If I'm not in front of the computer earning, then he will have to make it up.

On an other front - I need to get up with you. I have 2 really nice RC-15 caps (flat rivit, slite depression) that are not crapped up badly. I think they would make great resto/rebuilds for you. When you have a chance give me a shout. (850-567-2994)

I can bring them to Kissimmee if you are interested.
