    1968 Headrest

Does anyone have a picture of the bottom of a 1968 seat headrest? I am trying to piece together parts to make a set of headrests. Two non-matching headrests I have, have what appears to be a glue or something around the bottom of the headrest. Is something glued along the bottom? Is there anything to the headrest assembly other than the metal support, the padding, and the cover?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Dan,

Headrests or head restraints (A 82) as they are sometimes called, were an option in 1968 and not very often used from what I have observed. Only about 3,200 cars had them per the Corvette Black Book. Could you post a picture of one of them?

    Thanks,

    Terry

I will have to get a picture of the bottom and see if I can post it. My assembly manual doesn't show anything on the A-82 page but I am wondering if a piece of formed plastic was glued to the bottoms of the headrest where is would sit down and touch the top of the seat back.

The optional 1968 and "mandatory option" for 1969 headrests were exactly the same right down to the same part number. So, if you've seen a 1969 headrest (all 1969's have them), then you've seen a 1968 headrest.

Yes, there was a thin piece of thermo formed plastic which was glued to the bottom of the headrest. There was a thermo formed inset at the center of the piece through which the headrest support passed.

No parts of the headrest were ever available in SERVICE from GM. Only the complete headrest assembly was once available in all of the various 1968 and 1969 interior colors. They were all discontinued a LONG, LONG time ago.

You come through again! That is showing exactly what I was wanting to see. Only problem now is I don't have either of those plastic parts on my headrests. The search continues.......

          Thanks Joe
