    54 carb tweeking

Awhile back I was asking about faster starts in my 54, someone said squirt carb juice in throats and fire it up, if it starts quick then it is a gas thing, ok it fires at about three cranks, me likey, floats have been done to specs long ago, spark is fine, what are the main screws to adjust or what order to start with to richen the mix? This should be easy one for you carb guys? Thanks, Brad.

        Brad,

Hard to say what you should tweak to get your '54 to start more rapidly, since "more rapidly" is so relative. What does it do now? Does it reliably start and reliably run well? That's a good accomplishment right there.

If you can pull out the choke, turn the key to "start" and have the engine start within a few revolutions, then your '54 starts as easily as my unrestored '54. What my car does is good enough for me. Maybe yours is similar?

        Jim

Mine takes about 10 to 12 cranks before it starts, runs and drives great. Brad.

I pull my choke crank the starter and after the motor has turned over a few times I hit the gas once and the motor fires right up. If the car runs good and idles fine without puking gas out the throats when turned off personally I would leave well enough alone.
