    Plastic cover under steering column/63

    More 63 sourcing!
Does anyone know if there is a source for the little plastic cover under the steering column just in front of the dash that covers the wires there?
Don't have one so not sure what they look like.
Did they come in the interior color or what color are they?
    Thanks,
    John

Harry, no picture as I don't have one. I think it is a rectangular piece I think that covers the wiring on the bottom on the steering column, just as it goes to the dash. Covers the opening about an inch or more in width and 3-4 inches long? Just the open area on bottom of the column.

I was able to find one new a little while back...don't remember for certain, but I think I got it at Zip. Mine was black, but I have a 64 so the column is black. If not Zip, try Paragon.

Any idea of what the part is called? I have not seen one, just know it is missing.

Found them listed as turn signal wire cover, but they only list for 64 and later, no 63.

Just wonder if 64 would work? And if they come in column cover, mine is red, or are they all black?
              Anyone know?

Hi John 63 columns dont have any wiring on the column, there is a cable that runs down it to the signal switch, 64 and up have the turn signal switch inside the column at the top so the wires run down it, and have a cover.May be you dont have a 63 column. Is your signal switch mounted on the bottom of the column? hope this helps Phil 8063

The green horn wire runs down the column but it's inside until down further and exits from a hole near the T/S switch.. I think the excess gets attached to the column with a wrap of electrical tape..

                    John,

When I rebuilt the column a few years ago on our Feb built '63 coupe, I don't recall a plastic cover on it. Is it a late built '63? Maybe they went to the '64 design on yours, or some prior owner changed the column because of that '63 nightmare of a directional switch mechanism....

My early July build doesn't have any cover and, if it did, it probably would be the interior trim color (blue on mine). I bet on the very late 63 or a 64 column like Richard said.

Re: Plastic cover under steering column/63

I'm just trying to comply with the NCRS judge that told me I had to have the cover that goes over the wires on the bottom of the column as it goes into/below the dash. At that point there are wires running in a small depression in the column ( column there is then only about 1" 1/2 diameter) on the bottom side. My column is red. A July 63 build date car.
Does anyone else have this cover on that column?
Could the judge have been confused on a 64 car and the 63 cars did not have this cover? Not having seen one I just don't know, hopefully someone can clarify.

John, I've judged many 63's. Never have seen a cover.

Harry, thanks, guess I had been searching for a cover that does not exist, no wonder I could not find one!

Will challenge them on it next time.

John, As stated above in a previous response, you should only have a black cable going from the directional bell to the dash cluster bezel. If you have any wires you probably do not have a 63 column.
