What's it worth and what to look for?

I woulld like to buy a good quality C2 Coupe driver. I got burned on the C1 (1960) that I am working on now. I bought it off ebay site unseen and trusted the seller, my bad. I am doing a complete frame off restoration on the 1960, so I don't want another project car. Would like a good quality driver C2 that I can enjoy while I finish the C1.

There is a 1965 on ebay now that looks like it might go for a reasonable price. What I need to know is:

    What is it worth?
Is there anyone in the Chicagoland area that is a C2 expert that would be willing to take a look?, or
If I decide to go look myself, does someone have a VERY good list of things to look for/at and how is the best way to look, i.e. does it need to be on a lift to really inspect?

    Thanks,
    Don

Don, your link is bad and there are a zillion Corvettes on ebay. Help us out a little and get us a good link.

Since you've gone through the purchasing process recently I don't know what to tell you. Look for rust and general deterioration of the frame, as well as parts that are not original. The same sorts of things that you would look for in any used classic. These things will dictate the price, which you can get a good idea of by checking out the "sales" sites.

Buy or sell Chevrolet Corvettes from Classic to New, Dealers and Private Owners.

CorvetteBlogger.com covers all generations of the Chevrolet Corvette including C8 news, spy photos, Corvette ZR1 videos, auctions, prices & Corvette Racing!

Corvettes for sale, VetteFinders.com is a Corvette classified ads site with over 500 Corvettes for sale. List your Corvette for sale in our Corvette Classifieds! Corvette Parts for sale. Visit VetteFinders.com to sell your Corvette today.

D & M Corvette Specializes in sales of all year Corvettes, Hot Rods, and Muscle Cars and more. We also provide Service, Restoration, Fabrication, Parts, and Performance services. This year we are…

    Craig's list
    Digital Corvette
    Mecum
    NCRS Driveline

All of these sites will give you an idea of what the cars are going for in varying condition. Some of these are in Ohio. There are also some contributors to this board who can give you ballpark estimates, but you really have to see it in person.

Re: What's it worth and what to look for?

I got the link to work finally. I don't see anything too bad. The strut rods are bent, door strikers are painted over, odd wires under the hood and wrong clamps, black rattle can paint everywhere underneath. The rear shocks might be original.

Don, you need pictures of the engine stamp pad, trim and VIN tags, etc. What are the numbers on the transmission and differential? You should try to visit the car and take these pictures.

I'll throw out a guess on the price and this is a real guess since I don't watch coupes closely and I have'nt recently checked the sites that I gave you...around the mid 30's. Lower if it's a base motor.

Re: What's it worth and what to look for?

Thanks to all, I have been looking at all the usual sites for something. All of those listed above and anything else. I really want a Silver 67 L79, but I saw this 65 silver.

I do not believe the engine is original as he notes the engine has a 66 date. So that is why I assume it will go for a reasonable price. I would like to get a good driver for mid $30s, and not have to spend more than another $5k just to freshen it up. E.g. tires, brakes, some interior, etc. I am already spending a small fortune on the 1960 restoration. Just got my door and window posts back from Pauls, $1,400 for the four pieces

              Thanks,
              Don
