    70 Questions

Need the answer to two questions:

    1. Are the screws that attach the chrome fuel lid frame to the rear deck silver or black?

    2. How far do the exhaust extensions extend from the rear valence?

Tx in advance. Just trying to get all the details right before the car is judged on the 17th.

    Re: 70 Questions

    1. Yes, and that is mentioned in the TIM&JG.

    2. There is no specification for how far the tips extend beyond the body. Bring that page from the AIM with you, or a copy of it, to show the judges that there is no such dimension given. It will also show how the tip is located by a tab on the muffler outlet pipe. That tab controls the distance the tip extends from the back wall of the muffler.

Terry, in your judging experience how far do they generally extend? I know you said there's no standard, but I'd like to be in the ball park.

I really, really don't look -- unless something attracts my attention. Be sure the rear hanger is not too far forward or to the rear. Indicating a length issue with the pipes. On my original set, if I don't get the rear pipes far enough into the front pipes at the rear of the trans -- the clamps in that position won't clamp on the joint properly and the rear hanger will be pushed too far to the rear of the car and that results in the tips sticking out too far. Every time I take the system apart I have to take the rear pipes, with mufflers, to the muffler shop to get them to expand the rear pipes to remove the deformation from the clamps at the rear of the trans -- by the oxbow -- or they won't fit right. They are made for one time use, not to go on and off.

I guess it is like someone said about some other things: "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."

Tx Terry. I guess I'll see how they shape up tomorrow.
