    Wiper door w/open

I have checked the archives and see many problems with closing cycling etc but nothing that has helped me so far.

My headlights open and close with authority, no problem. (with the headlight switch and stem valve)

My wiper door will not open with the dash switch or stem valve at the steering column.

I replaced the interlock switch when I found the button broken off. I have vacuum, via the steel line from the drivers side to the hose and on the middle (red) orifice of the interlock. I have vacuum to the lower orifice, white.
If I open the door by hand and push in the stem on the valve under the steering column the door closes nicely. The actuator is good it, it will open and close the door with my blowing or sucking on the hose.

Thanks Ed, that is where I am going now.

The vacuum relay valve is my next test.

Ken, try to by-pass the safety switch by hooking the two hoses together, I don't have may car in front of me, but I think the colors are white and red. the other hose is just a vent.

Look to see if your wiper bezel is cracked. Sometimes it is just a matter of getting ground because both sides are broken and when you throw the switch, it is not able to make a complete circuit. I hope it's that simple.

        Ed,

I removed the side grille and pulled off the small control hose and I have vacuum there. Maybe the piston is stuck in the valve? Should I try to WD-40 it?

          Thanks Terry,

If it did not work from the dash switch, but did work, open, from the stem valve, I would be looking for a ground. It seems like my relay valve. The other way, just a ground is way to cheap to solve my problem, as always

Ken, did you join the two hoses together? this will by-pass that switch.

              Yes Ed,

I have vacuum directly to the control section of the valve, the small hose.

I can hear the valve shuttle as I add or remove the vacuum.

                Ed, Terry,

Thanks for your help. I found my problem. It is the actuator after all. I would blow or suck on the red side and the door will open and close. I tried putting vacuum to the green hose and it is open atmosphere. I thought that if the diaphragm was leaking I would not get action from either side

In about one hundred or so years I will be an expert on this one car.
