Locating a vehicle with a VIN

I am curious, if one has a VIN number of a classic Corvette is there any way to use it to locate the car? I know that with the privacy act it makes it very difficult but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

PM me the VIN, I'll take a stab at it. Like a needle in a haystack, but I've found a few for members here !! You can also try Bill Gould of Auto Ancestry. We hooked a guy up with his original window sticker a couple of months back !!!

Google National Motor Vehicle Title Information System. Follow the instructions for checking a VIN. If the car has been recently registered, the system will report (for a fee) whatever vehicle history is available for the car.

It will NOT provide personal information, like owners names, addresses, etc.

Typically, what you get is the state(s) that the car is / has been registered in.

That worked. I found out that the car is located in Missouri and called hoping that someone might be willing to help. They pointed me to a Request for Motor Vehicle Records form that said to fill out and maybe I might get something

        Thanks for the help!

That won't help unless you have a Security Access Code issued by the Mo DMV.

Also start hitting the Missouri Corvette / classic car clubs to see if anyone of them know of the car. It is pure detective work from here.
