They were black phosphate. However, it's a pretty moot point since the thread end of the bolt was "chopped" off (rather crudely) fairly close to the nut. So, VERY little of the bolt can be seen when the spring is installed on the car. Since the bottom of the bolt was "chopped off", it's "natural" finish and that's about the most you can see of the bolt.

Thanks Joe. The guy who pinched mine off left about 1/2 inch of threads showing.
I guess I should have asked about the nut also??

I do not recall the finish on the nut.

My observations lead me to believe the nut is natural -- that is no finish.

Keith I agree with both Joe and Terry Phosphate finish on the bolt and Natural on the nut. It is almost impossible to visually tell the finish on the bolt while assembled.
