I'm considering using Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black (satin finish - 60-70% gloss) over an epoxy primer for the finish coat but have read complaints on their website about an extensive drying time. I'd appreciate comments from anyone that has used this product or can recommend an alternative paint. Thanks...Clark Erlandson 18941

Hi Clark,
It's good to see you on the TDB.
Besides the replies you get from this thread, you may want to take a look at Joe Rueda's thread...'Judging mid year frame finish'... presently on the second page. I don't know if you've seen it, and think some of the information may be interesting to you too.
Good Luck!

Re: C-3 Frame Paint - 1970
Clark,
I painted my 71 frame with ppg epoxy primer and then used the Eastwood Chassis paint on next. I don't remember a drying time problem. I painted both primer and paint all in one day. The primer was I think the DP90 PPG which is also black so if you scratch the paint it is black underneath. Worked good for me. I know some people just use the DP90 primer as there only paint as it looks good as well.

Re: C-3 Frame Paint - 1970
I did my 71's frame with Eastwoods chassis black.
Great stuff dried in less than a day and holds up great. Much more durable than I anticipated (did not scratch much during the reassembly)Pete Bergmann

Re: C-3 Frame Paint - 1970
I used Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator as the primer and their original Chassis Black Satin as the finish coat on my '73. Got no deductions on the frame at this year's National Convention judged by these two guys ...

Re: C-3 Frame Paint - 1970
Clark,
I used the extreme chassis black on my frame. I applied two coats of the chassis black, which took two quarts, just made it. If you would like to see what it looks like I could take a couple of pictures and send to you.

Re: C-3 Frame Paint - 1970
I'm new at this chassis painting but what do you use to apply these paints as they are sold in quarts and gallons? I'm making my plans to rebuild the rear suspension and detail the chassis in that area this winter. All this needs to be done with the body on as I'm only attacking the rear of the car. Thanks!!- Top
