    1967 Steering Column

I have a 1967 produced in june 67, I'm trying to rebuild the steering Column. I do have the telescoping steering, the more I research the parts the more I believe I have a 66 steering column. All parts are 100% original and the car has never been in a accident. If you view the bearing I posted it is from a 66 model according to Long Island corvettes. I have every part removed so its easy to see the parts are the same. So if anyone has ever restored a 67 telecoping steering column I would appr. your thoughts. Thanks

Try these links to the two papers on the 1967-68 Corvette Telescoping Columns. I am pretty sure they will work.

          Hi John:

I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that the 66 column did not have the collapsible screen mesh that the 67 column had for the column to collapse a few inches if the driver hit the steering wheel in an accident. This is a very big difference between the two designs, and should be obvious at a glance. The screen mesh was covered with a thin, black plastic cover.

This is a blowup of the 1967 Corvette telescoping steering column. Note the large mounting bracket #9 that is welded to the jacket #10. I am sure that the 1966 steering column did not have such a bracket.

ok I have a 67 column why are the bearings different? is that bearing also on a 67?

On long island corvette the bearing is list as straight (replacement) does the replacement mean this had a design change?

Ok I finally have this problem figured out. On the Corvette central website they list the bearing as upper and lower. Now I can press on and order the parts
