Re: Corvette Enthusiast Magazine
It was for Corvette Enthusiast as anything else would not made it in the house because my town provides a recycling container and I pass right by it on the way back from the mail box. I can't check the date because I tossed it because John Hinckley gave us the heads-up but it was the standard renewal letter that I thought at the time was kind of shifty or just a little slow moving through the printing and mailing process.
I can tell you after twenty-eight years in the US Postal Service in the last ten years, five especially I have never seen magazines and "junk" mailers fail like they are.
Magazines like Southern Living (in the South), Readers Digest, Newsweek and Time were all staples of USPS income but are all but deceased
now compared to ten years ago.
Print publishing or delivering it is not a business to go in to if you plan on surviving.- Top

John,
now that the magazine is no-longer, are you able to put together a collection of the articles on a cd, say, and charge a few bucks for the entire lot?

I have a library of articles from this board and the Corvette Forum that I have copied and pasted of John's. The experience and knowledge of John and a few others on this board has been invaluable in my meager attempt to get my car back together.- Top

I'm inclined to agree with you to some degree about Corvette Magazine. I had a go round with their "Tech Nerd" a few years back and, all I can say is, this guy doesn't know beans about our old iron and buys into all the EPA stuff. I do find a few things they do helpful, including their market surveys. It's not to say they are completely accurate, but it is another sourse and they are reporting real data. I copy their C-2 data every year just as one source to keep track of the market trends.

Re: Corvette Enhusiast Magazine
For the past several years, I've been so disappointed with the auto/performance mags with their frequent inaccuracies, obvious failures of the writers to proof read their articles, overwhelming ad content, etc, etc, that I have let all mag subscriptions expire. My very first mag to subscribe to was HOTROD (1968), and it was the last to expire.
You know what----------------I don't miss any of them, PLUS, I have discovered that if I need any technical/engineering information (especially on any Chevy product) I can find it quicker and accurately on forums such as here as well as other Chevy related forums.- Top

Tom,
Hot Rod was my first and I just got a renewal offer and decided not to renew.
For the very reasons you mentioned. I hate it because guys from our generation were raised on those magazines but I think they are all going the way of dinosaurs. I don't even read books anymore since since I discovered books on CD.- Top

Re: Corvette Enthusiast Magazine
I'm a charter subscriber to "Automobile Quarterly", hard-bound with my name embossed on the cover; started in 1962. That's 48 years' worth, 192 hard-bound volumes - they take up a bit of space too.

Re: Corvette Enhusiast Magazine
I went through the same thing with Motor Trend Classic a few years ago. Great Magazine , lasted about four issues. Ceased right after I subscribed. I see it's back but at about 15 bucks a copy. I learned my lesson. Burned once already. I'm getting ads all the time for M/T, Hot rod, Car and Driver for three year subs at six bucks a year. Makes you wonder at that price are they going to be around in three years.- Top

Re: Corvette Enhusiast Magazine
Unless you have the driest basement in the universe, storing paper in the basement is a bad idea as well. Moisture, mold and mildew will kill the paper. ALL paper products begin to return to nature as soon as they are manufactured. Some take longer than others, but unless there is chemical intervention, this inevitable march of nature will continue. Ever hear the expression: "Dust to dust; ashes to ashes ....." That applies to paper also.
Search the Internet for the chemical paper treatment, but be very careful with it.Terry- Top
