    69 wiper relay relocation

When they relocated the wiper relay from the right inner fender to the firewall above the master cylinder did they eliminate the vacuum hose clip that attaches to the passenger fender gutter about ten inches from the firewall? I looked at an early car and a late car today and the early car had the clip but the late car didn't. The early car had all the vacuum hoses run through the clip. I don't see a need for the clip on my June built car unless something else is secured by the clip. Thanks Brad

If you are right at the change point, it is possible that a worker at St Louis put the unneeded clip on just out of habit. Stranger things have happened.

On the other hand, I would suggest you take a close look at your front surround to be sure someone didn't graft in an earlier passenger fender top as a means of making a body damage repair. These sorts of things have also happened.

Terry, the front end of my car has been replaced with a used original front end so I dont if it is early or late . It does have the clip but I'm not sure it should. Just wondering if I need to fill the hole before paint

        Fill the hole.

Those sorts of "anomalies" are what the judges look for as clues to look more carefully at the front clip bonding points. The kind and amount of bonding material across the firewall at the back of the engine compartment is another. The small ledge at that position is another. It is hard to hide a front clip change, but it can be made more difficult to detect with attention to detail.

          Hi Brad,
My July 69 has the hole but not the clip.
          Cheers, Graeme.

My April '69 car has the hole but it appears to be plugged...flush in the gutter but a pointed protusion underneath. I have no idea if the factory did this, or a previous owner. The car was fairly original when I got it, but there is evidence of some body damage in that general area...just not to the gutter.
