    GF 432 fuel filter leaks

Replaced the inline fuel filter on my 68, but no matter how tight I make it, the upper fitting leaks like a sieve.
    ?thread sealant

    thoughts?
    thanks

Thread sealant will do absolutely no good, whatsoever. These are straight threads and the tubing nut only serves to force the tubing flare into the tapered seat on the filter. The seal is achieved between the tubing flare and the seat. No sealing occurs at the threads.

For this to leak, there must be a problem with either the flare on the tubing or the seat on the filter. These surfaces have to be PERFECT or a leak will occur. If, by chance, you are using stainless steel fuel lines, that could be your problem. Stainless steel is very hard and a flare will not conform well with the seat. I LOVE stainless steel, but NOT for fuel or brake lines.

try one of these. i have used these on a lot of steel flare lines that would not seal like 3X2 carb setup. http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us

if you still have trouble getting a seal heat the washer red hot and drop into cold water to anneal it.

          Thanks guys, very helpful

Clem: is that the right size sealing washer for my line? Are they available at a local retailer?
          thanks

Try Loctite 545 hydraulic sealant. Put it on with a Q-tip and use it sparingly. Works every time and has gotten old JD out of a lot of issues over the years with fuel injection fittings.
Loctite 545 is only available at Industrial Supply houses. JD

Loctite 545, never heard that one, I'll keep it in mind.

FYI, I got it to seal after multiple attempts. It was apparently very particular about the sequence. Since the filter has steel lines top and bottom that are rigid, it is a bit difficult to line it up without angular stress on the fittings. I disconnected the bottom fitting and lined it up square then tightened fully the top. Then went to the bottom which had a little more "give" and tightened it.
The fifth time or so, and now it seals tight with no leak.
                Go figure.
