    What stainless Exhaust should I buy 409 0r 304

I am buying the stainless system from Allens in Indiana and am getting the 82" sections rather than the sectioned pipe.

I know the difference of the 409 vs the 304, the 409 being slightly magnetic and turning brown when the carbon rusts and the 304 being non magnetic and staying shiney.

    What experiance do you have.

Personally, I would use only the type 304. Yes, it's more expensive but if you're going to go stainless, go the "whole way".

I have 304 stainless on my 2000. the exhaust system is 8 years old and looks very good. 304 is the way to go.

        Why not aluminized?
Only a 25% originality deduction vs. 50% deduction for stainless.

I have had an aluminized exhaust system on one of my classics for 7+ years, and it still looks nice-n-shiny new. I do drive the car, and have been caught in rain..

All I do is buff the pipes with a fine scotchbright pad, and Cermaglow Metallic Ceramic Polish (made for headers but works great on pipes) from Eastwood and its restored like day one. I ussually do this in the spring, and once during the show season.

            I'm with you guys,
            I ordered the 304.
I also hate rust and have the 409 on my airplane exhaust. I don't like the way it looks. It has a high carbon content and rusts a lot so I actually have to high temp paint it to make it look good.

Jim at Allens was great in explaining and making sure I got what I wanted. He even set me up with new manifolds, bolts, french locks, riser, hangers and SS clamps.
Thanks for the reply guys, and Joe, I am a stainless guy also and I've snuck some thin aircraft washers under some nuts & bolts so the turning wouldn't ruin the finish of the part. They don't rust and hide pretty good, you really have to look hard to see them.
