    1967 Exhaust System

I'm removing the 2 1/2" side pipes from my car so that I can comply with the tank sticker options.

I'm thinking of a stainless steel system if it is not so cost prohibitive. Any ideas/thoughts on that idea and if so, where can I purchase said system.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I'm a "stainless steel kind of guy". I like stainless steel ANYTHING. I'd rather have a stainless steel watch than a gold one. I've used stainless steel exhaust on my 1969 for years even though in California one doesn't really need it. Never a single problem, although I did have a slight fitment problem with the 2-1/2" system I recently installed (but, one can have the same problem with a standard steel or aluminized steel system). Yes, the stainless steel does discolor a bit (slight yellowing) but it does not RUST. I hate rust.

You can obtain a stainless steel system from several companies and I don't consider them prohibitively expensive, at all. Allen's Exhaust is one good source. The Stainless Works is another. The latter uses a thinner gauge tubing than Allen's but that's not necessarily bad--it saves some weight. I like the heavier wall, though.

I have an aluminized steel system from Allens on my car for 6 years, 2 Road Tours (1 of them Intl. plenty of wet driving and the system looks like I installed it last week.

Unless you plan to continuously run leaded gasoline (the chlorides and bromides in leaded gas are very corrosive to steel), I would recommend an aluminized exhaust system. I think it will be easier to install, and will still be under the car when your grandkids inherit it.

        Just my opinion.

I like stainless steel for many things, but feel an aluminized exhaust system is more than adequate for our cars.

An aluminized steel system IS more than adequate for Corvettes. No doubt about it. However, there's nothing like stainless steel. By the way, a complete stainless steel system is supplied as factory original on Rolls-Royce cars (as well as many other cars).
