'56 fuel filter housing, piecing one together

Right now I have an original non-domed fuel filter housing. I bought a correct reproduction domed housing. I was going to use the bowl and metal reatiner from the original on the reproduction to hopefully make it a little more correct.

My question, the reproduction filters metal retainer is curved and rounded towards the bottom on either side. My original is not curved but instead has straights like this:



Which is actually correct for an original domed filter? The rounded like the reproduction of the straight one like pictured above with the non-domed lid?

the metal retainer in the picture is correct. the only part i use on the reproduction filter housings is the cover. in installing a original or reproduction cover i find that locating a slightly thicker 2" rubber gasket is needed in a lot of cases. i could not get several covers and bowls to stop leaking without the thicker gaskets.
